大野由美子＋zAk＋飴屋法水
レコーディング・スタジオでの一発録りをライブとして公開し、DSDで収録した音源をDSDファイルのまま配信するという本誌主催のPremium Studio Live。第3回はバッファロー・ドーターでの活躍で知られる大野由美子と、その公私にわたるパートナーであるエンジニアのzAkが登場。2人は"ZAKYUMIKO"という名義でアーティスト活動も行っているが、今回はそこに美術や舞台芸術の分野での活躍で知られるアーティスト＝飴屋法水が参戦。3人中2人が非ミュージシャン、しかも完全即興というまさに予測不能な状況の下、5月29日に行われたスリリングなセッションの模様を、当日のレコーディングを担当したエンジニア葛西敏彦氏の談話とともにお伝えしていこう。

『ペーパー・エアプレーン』by マイク・シプリー
海外のトップ・エンジニアに自身の手掛けたヒット曲のミックス手法を直接解説してもらう本連載。今回登場していただくのは、1980年代からロック／ポップスを軸に活躍し続けるマイク・シプリー。レコーディングも手掛ける彼だが、とりわけミックスに特化しているエンジニアという点では、ロック界の大御所ロバート・ジョン“マット”ランジと並び称される存在だ。最近ではミックス・ワークからやや遠ざかっていたシプリーだが、そんな彼にやって来たのはカントリー／ブルーグラスの第一人者、アリソン・クラウスが率いるグループ、アリソン・クラウス・アンド・ユニオン・ステーションによるニュー・アルバム『ペーパー・エアプレーン』の録音／編集だった。ロック系エンジニアがアメリカの伝統音楽に対峙（たいじ）したとき、一体どんなサウンド・メイクがなされたのだろう？ 本稿では、透明感にあふれた音響の獲得に成功した『ペーパー・エアプレーン』の音作りについて、その詳細を見ていく。

砂原良徳“sound tectonics #9”＠YCAM
山口情報芸術センター［YCAM］にて8月まで展示されているインスタレーション、平川典俊「Beyond the sunbeam through trees―木漏れ日の向こうに」。そのオープニングを記念したライブ・イベント“sound tectonics♯9”が5月29日に催された。“メディア・テクノロジーを駆使したサウンド・アートを紹介するコンサート”と位置付けられた本シリーズ、今回は同インスタレーションの音楽を手掛け、クラフトワーク／ノイ！／ハルモニアといった伝説的なグループでの活動で知られるミヒャエル・ローターに加えて、ジム・オルークと砂原良徳のライブも行われるという特別な一日となった。その中でも本誌は、4月に10年ぶりのオリジナル・アルバム『liminal』をリリースし、電子音楽の新たな局面に突入した砂原良徳をクローズ・アップ。YCAMという特別なスペースで砂原が披露したライブとは……？ 機材システムを含め、その一部始終をレポートする。
