高木正勝～ライブ・レコーディングした演奏から映像的手法で“気配”を立ち上がらせた音楽

ライブの気配を再構築した“レイヤー・ミックス”の解説から
プライベート・スタジオのシステムの紹介まで！
世界を旅して撮影した映像をコンピューターで独特な世界へ昇華させる映像作家。リリカルなピアノを核に色鮮やかな音を奏でる音楽家。高木正勝はそんな2つの顔を併せ持つアーティストである。その彼が新しくスタートしたプロジェクトが“Tai Rei Tei Rio（タイ・レイ・タイ・リオ）”。ポリネシア語で「大きく振れ、小さく振れ」という意味を持つこの言葉は、京都の祭りで使われる“祭霊祭領（さいれいさいりょう）”の語源と言われ、日本がユーラシア文化圏に属することの証左でもある。プロジェクトの皮切りとして、昨年秋にめぐろパーシモンホールと岩手県立美術館の２カ所でコンサートを行ったが、今回、そのライブ音源を再構築したCDと、その収録曲にまつわる神話を編んだ書籍をパッケージにしたアルバムをリリースする。非常に野心的な試みがなされたこの作品の制作過程について、ミックスを行ったプライベート・スタジオの紹介と併せてお届けしよう。

ブラック・アイド・ピーズ「ブン・ブン・パウ」

ヒップホップという枠組みを越え、最先端のパーティ・ミュージックを作り出すユニット、ブラック・アイド・ピーズの傑作シングル「ブン・ブン・パウ」に深くかかわったエンジニア、ディラン・ドレスドー。本作はリーダーでもありプロデューサーでもあるウィル・アイ・アムいわく“エレクトリック・スタティック・ファンク”という新しい方向性を示したパーティ・トラックだ。使用された多くはハードウエア・シンセながらも、さまざまなアウトボード類やプラグイン、そしてDESIDSIGN Pro Toolsを駆使して制作されたこのトラックの裏側をドレスドーが、レアなビンテージ機材の宝庫である自身のPaper V.U.スタジオで余すところなく語る。

ジョン・レノン「真夜中を突っ走れ」
1974年5月にニューヨークに戻るまでの、ジョン・レノンのロサンゼルスでの生活はかなりすさんでいた。いくつもの裁判沙汰、アルバム『ロックン・ロール』の制作の頓挫、悪友たちとの酒とドラッグにおぼれた生活など、それはレノンが後に“失われた週末”と形容する、約15カ月間におよぶヨーコとの別居生活の最悪期だった。もっともレノンの人生はロサンゼルスでの放蕩生活にピリオドを打った時期あたりから再び好転し始める。レコーディング再開のめどが立ち、長年対立していたポール・マッカートニーとの和解、疎遠になっていた息子ジュリアンの絆の深まりなど、公私共に立ち直りのきっかけをつかむようになったからだ。そうした中、レノンはそのキャリアを再び軌道に乗せるため、1974年6月、心機一転新しいアルバムを制作する決心を固めた。そのアルバムこそが今回紹介する『心の壁、愛の橋』（原題：『Walls and Bridges』）。レノンと旧知の仲であるエンジニアのロイ・シカラが、レコーディングの様子をはじめ、『ロックン・ロール』プロジェクトの結末、フィル・スペクターとのエピソードなどを語ってくれた。

■コンサート見聞録
ポルノグラフィティ＠代々木体育館
たぐいまれなキャッチーさで日本のヒット・チャートをぎわせているポルノグラフィティも、今年の9月でなんとメジャー10周年を迎える。それに先駆け、昨年の10月には二度目のベスト・アルバムを2枚同時リリースするなどその活動は年々加速しているようにすら感じられるものだ。そんな彼らが、全国ツアーを決行。2～5月にかけて全国13都市を巡り、追加公演も含めて29公演を行った。今回は、そのツアーのラストを飾る国立代々木競技場第一体育館公演のサウンド・システムをレポート。デビュー時からツアーのオペレートを担ってきた、MSI JAPAN所属のPAエンジニア村田孝氏に、Venueを用いたプラグインによる音作りを中心に解説していただいた。

■コンサート見聞録
睡蓮＠赤坂BLITZ
エレクトロニカやインダストリアルなど独特の質感を持った音楽観で多くのリスナーを引きつける睡蓮が去る5月9日、赤坂BLITZにて“flow in her veins 2.5D”と銘打たれたライブを行った。本公演は音響面もさることながら、“ステージ上に二次元の映像を使って三次元空間を出現させる”という映像的に全く新しい演出が施され、見るものを異世界にいざなうような感覚を生み出した。これを可能にしたのは、映像作家の秋葉哲也氏の提唱する“モーション・スペース2.5D”という技術と、ライティング・プランナーの小向康裕氏によるシステム・プランニング。その2人に首謀者である藤井麻輝の話を交え、この革新的な演出の具体的な技法を解き明かしていく。
