WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Type 1 Paratrooper Parachute Matching Set

This is a Type 1 Parachute (Special Type) used by the Imperial Japanese Navy’s airborne units. The parachute bag is damaged, and its contents have spilled out. Although the parachute itself is exposed, the serial number matches the repair records. Ironically, because the parachute was exposed, we were able to verify the serial number match. Since the back pack is open, some parts are missing. The main body is sturdily constructed, but shows some signs of deterioration, possibly due to dryness. The straps are sturdy. This is not an unused item; it was actually used and repaired during its service, so I believe its very survival makes it a rarer find than an unused one. This is strictly for collection purposes and cannot be used in practice. It is being offered for display and appreciation.

Manufactured in 1942 (Showa 17) by Fujikura Aviation Industry Co., one of the primary suppliers of parachutes for the Japanese military.
Japanese naval paratroopers (Special Naval Landing Forces) conducted airborne operations in the early stages of the Pacific War, including drops at Menado (Celebes) and Kupang (Timor) in 1942.
This parachute corresponds to equipment used during those operations.

Wartime History

This particular set also shows evidence of repair in 1944 (Showa 19).
After airborne operations were largely discontinued, surviving parachute equipment was maintained and refurbished for potential reuse in homeland defense and special operations.
This makes the set especially interesting as it reflects both:
  • early war operational use (1942)
  • late war reconditioning (1944)

Features

  • Type 1 parachute (Special Type)
  • Manufactured in 1942
  • Repaired in 1944
  • Fujikura Aviation Industry production
  • Matching numbers
  • Complete set including harness, pack, and canopy
After WWII, most Japanese parachute equipment was destroyed, and surviving examples are extremely rare.
Matching sets with original labels and documented repair history are particularly scarce.
This is a highly collectible and historically significant item related to Imperial Japanese Navy airborne forces.

Important Notes: 1. If the seller is unwilling to ship overseas or is unaware that the product will be shipped overseas, the international shipping cost for returns or exchanges will need to be borne by the member. You may refer to the EMS e-Express fee inquiry from the post office. If it involves alcoholic beverages or items that affect flight safety, the post office cannot be used for shipment, and only DHL can be used to ship back to Japan.
2. During the product complaint handling period, please retain the complete outer packaging of the product (including the shipping label information), and refrain from attempting any repairs or altering the original condition. Any modifications may result in the inability to process the case.
